HAN DYNASTY POLYCHROME TERRACOTTA ROOSTER - TL TESTED.
Ca. 202 BC - AD 220.
A terracotta rooster with a hollow body and a naturalistic stance. The head is detailed with a prominent comb and wattles, both accentuated with traces of red pigment. The pointed beak and the eyes are subtly modelled. The wings are delineated with shallow incised lines and remnants of red and green pigment highlight the feathering. The tail extends outward in a broad arc, comprising layered, curved segments with faint traces of red pigment along the edges. The rooster stands on bronze legs, which are separately modelled and affixed to the body, displaying well-defined claws and a sturdy stance.

Provenance: UK private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong.
This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
