Lot no. 1823
Hanns Pellar. (1886 Vienna - 1971 Vienna) Rendezvous at the Golden Gate Nocturnal, gallant scene with a young, courtly rococo lady, a cavalier kneeling before her and three small putti as an erotic allusion. A typical Art Nouveau motif and style by Pellar, who was a master student of Franz von Stuck at the Munich Academy from 1906 to 1908. In 1911, Pellar was appointed to the Darmstadt artists' colony, of which he remained a member until 1917. In 1910 and 1912/13, two major articles about Pellar appeared in the authoritative art magazine "Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration" (German Art and Decoration), which made him even better known in addition to exhibitions. Pellar, who was regarded as a "painter of elegance", favoured depicting fairy-tale motifs, park parties and often erotically charged, flirtatious rococo ladies with extravagant hairstyles in an imaginatively voluptuous manner. He also created illustrations for the magazines "Jugend" and "Simplizissimus", among others. Oil/cardboard. Signed a.; 62 cm x 60.5 cm. Frame. Oil on cardboard. Signed.
