Rabbi Aron Guggenheimer (1793-1862), a graduate of the Fürth yeshiva, became rabbi of the Kriegshaber district in 1819. He was a supporter of the Reform movement and delivered his sermons exclusively in German. In 1836, he played a key role in the successful conclusion of the Upper Danube District Synod in Augsburg, which improved religious conditions for Jews. Religious education was at the heart of his work, particularly at the Augsburg grammar schools of St. Anna and St. Stephan. He was behind the creation of foundations to support poor Jewish apprentices.
