The second miracle: despite grueling odd jobs, I cough up hundreds of works. Already in 1961/62 I am represented in some galleries, belong to the group ‘Zero-Avantgarde’, and my most important period begins. .. From: Hans Bischoffshausen, from Versuch einer Biographie, 1977 Bischoffshausen saw himself as an outsider at Zero Avantgarde, even though he felt he belonged nowhere else. This is a position he has cultivated, enjoyed and hated. Arnulf Rohsmann, Bischoffshausen, Struktur-Monochromie-Reduktion, Ritter Verlag, 1991 (afterword).
