...The first Joanneumpreis for contemporary painting fulfilled my dream of going to Paris in 1959.
The second miracle: despite grueling odd jobs, I cough up hundreds of works.
Already in 1961/62 I am represented in some galleries, belong to the group ‘Zero-Avantgarde’, and my most important period begins. ..

Bischoffshausen saw himself as an outsider at Zero Avantgarde, even though he felt he belonged nowhere else.
This is a position he has cultivated, enjoyed and hated.
