Lot no. 1622
Hans Johann Baptist Count (Vienna - 1710 ibid.) attr; Coastal or river landscape with harbour and landing stage at a village Narrative scene with many figures in an evening mood. Graf was probably a pupil of Folpert van Alten-Allen in Vienna; his oeuvre consists mainly of small paintings with a richly figurative, narrative staffage, orientated towards Flemish and Dutch landscape and genre painting. The present painting is clearly influenced by Pieter Bout and Jan Brueghel I. Graf also created some of the staffage in landscapes for other painters such as Anton Faistenberger. One of his pupils was Franz de Paula Ferg, which has led to difficulties in correctly attributing the work to one of the two artists. Landscapes comparable to the present work are also known by Franz de Paula Ferg. Oil on canvas, double; old 18th/19th century label verso inscribed "Hanns Graf". 26.5 cm x 38 cm. Frame. Attributed to Hans Johann Baptist Graf (1654 - 1710). Oil on canvas, relined. Old 18th or 19th century label with attribution "Hanns Graf" on the reverse.
