Unger, who studied at the Dresden Academy under Friedrich Preller the Younger and Hermann Prell, among others, and continued his training at the Académie Julian under Tony Robert-Fleury and Jules-Joseph Lefebvre in 1897/98, was an important representative of Dresden Art Nouveau and began to work in a more powerful style around 1910.
