HAWES (Benjamin). A Narrative of an Ascent to the Summit of Mont-Blanc made during the summer of 1827 by Mr. William Hawes and Mr. Charles Fellows. Printed for Benjamin Hawes, junior, by Arthur Taylor, 1828. In-8, bound in full green chagrin, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets, double framing of gilt fillets on the boards, gilt title on the first board (rubbing) (binding circa 1860). First edition (private printing), illustrated with a lithographed frontispiece diagram by Hullmandel, a fold-out facsimile (certificate of ascent), a fold-out plate (watercolour aquatint by Samuel Birman depicting the Bossons glacier) and three lithographs in colour pasted on strong paper, after A.
