HEARNE (Samuel). Voyage du fort du prince de Galles dans la Baie de Hudson à l'Océan Nord, entrepris par ordre de la Compagnie de la Baie de Hudson dans les années 1769-1772 et exécuté par terre, pour la découverte d'un passage au Nord-Ouest. Paris, Patris, an VII [1798]. In-4, green morocco half-basin with small vellum corners, smooth spine decorated, speckled edges (period binding). First French edition, translated by A.-J.-N. Lallemant. It is illustrated with 9 fold-out plates, maps and plans, including a large itinerary map of the voyage. "This work contains extremely curious information on the manners and customs of the savages in this part of America" (Chadenat). From the library of Adrien de Gasparin (1783-1862), with bookplate. An Orange Protestant from a Corsican family, he was a deputy for Vaucluse and then Minister of the Interior under the July Monarchy. He also commissioned Berlioz's Requiem, which is dedicated to him. The copy subsequently passed to the library of the Reformed Church of Orange, with repeated stamps and inventory number at the top of the spine. Binding a little rubbed, worm damage on the spines and on pp. 92-96, some foxing. Sabin, n°31183 - Chadenat, n°1620.
