Mit zwo angehenckten Reisen, die er nach seiner Dienstbarkeit in Vier Königreich, Böhem, Polen, Schweden, Dennemarck... vollbracht. Heidelberg, G. Vögelin, (1610). 4°, full calf on wooden boards, ribbed spine, large gilt roulettes, central gilt medallion with religious subject, bevelled edges, chiselled clasps, blue edges (contemporary binding). Wear and rubbing to binding, wormholes. Very rare first edition, with 5 maps and 20 engraved plates, some folding. The maps of Cyprus, Corsica and Malta must be mentioned for their rarity. The signatures are browned, some heavily; worm damage throughout, more pronounced in the second half of the book. Library stamps on front and back of title. A work of great interest, despite the defects noted. In 1585, Michael Heberer from Heidelberg was captured by the Turks on board a galley of the Order of Malta. He spent three years as a slave in the Ottoman Empire, and made numerous voyages around the Mediterranean aboard his master's galley. A French envoy bought his freedom in Constantinople in 1588.
