Helene Stromeyer 1834 Hanover - 1924 Karlsruhe)
Rose still life
Realistic depiction of pink-coloured rose stems in various stages of bloom. Stromeyer, who specialised in landscapes and flower pieces, received her first artistic training in Düsseldorf under Rudolf Jordan. In 1871 Stromeyer made her debut at an exhibition in Hanover, and from 1876/77 she also successfully participated in the Berlin Academy exhibitions as well as exhibitions in Munich, Vienna, etc., which speaks for her recognition and artistic quality. At the beginning of the 1880s she went to Karlsruhe, where she was a pupil of Hermann Baisch, Hans Fredrik Gude and Gustav Schönleber. Alongside Anna Peters, Jenny Fikentscher, Sophie Ley and Alwine Schroedter, she was one of the best-known Karlsruhe painters, and from 1892 Stromeyer taught in the class for floral still lifes at the Karlsruhe School for Women Painters.
