HELLENISTIC GOLD PENDANT WITH CARNELIAN STONE.
Ca. 300 BC.
A gold pendant featuring a tooth-shaped carnelian stone set within an ornate gold cap. The carnelian is smoothly polished, tapering to a pointed end. The gold cap encasing the upper section of the stone is adorned with a continuous band of scrollwork and applied granulation. A row of small beads borders the lower edge of the cap. The suspension loop, attached to the top, mirrors the decorative pattern of the cap.
