HELLENISTIC GREEN STONE INTAGLIO DEPICTING VENUS IN GOLD RING. Ca. 200 - 100 BC. A green stone convex intaglio depicting Venus in profile, facing right. The figure’s facial features are defined with a straight nose, delicate lips, and a rounded chin. Her hair is arranged in parallel strands flowing back from the forehead, bound by a small diadem. The intaglio is set in a raised oval setting of a gold ring with its hoop widening dramatically at the shoulders.
