HELLENISTIC HIGH KARAT GOLD LUNAR PENDANT WITH FILIGREE.
Ca. 300 - 1 BC A superb gold lunate pendant hammered from thin sheet and bordered by a braided cable flanked by raised, plain bands. Within the crescent, an inner field is ornamented with scrolling filigree tendrils, framing a central triangular-shaped appliqué. Each finial terminates in a rosette with clustered granules forming a pointed tip. At the apex a ribbed suspension loop rises above a small rosette. Size: 32mm x 23mm; Weight: 3.5g. Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was documented and authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were published in a professional catalogue, a copy of which is available upon request.
