HELLENISTIC HIGH KARAT GOLD MOUNT WITH AMETHYST INTAGLIO DEPICTING APOLLO Ca. 300 - 200 BC. A circular amethyst intaglio engraved with the profile head of Apollo facing left, his hair bound with a fillet and his shoulders draped in a cloak. The stone is set within a gold mount with a scalloped edge and flat back, flanked by a pair of loop attachments on either side. For similar see: D.
