HELLENISTIC HIGH KARAT GOLD PENDANT WITH PALMETTE AND RED GARNET CABOCHONS. Ca. 300 - 100 BC A gold openwork pendant of elongated outline framed by a beaded border. At the centre a rosette in high relief is set with a small round garnet cabochon, flanked on either side by large drop-shaped garnets in raised settings. The stones are backed by symmetrical palmettes formed in filigree, and each end of the pendant terminates in a coiled scroll with cells for small cabochons and a gold loop for suspension. Size: 38mm x 15mm; Weight: 4g. Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was documented and authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were published in a professional catalogue, a copy of which is available upon request.
