HELLENISTIC TERRACOTTA STATUETTE OF FEMALE DANCER - EX. CHRISTIE'S Perhaps from Centuripe, Sicily, Ca. 200 - 100 BC. A terracotta statuette of a female figure captured in a dynamic pose, her body arching in a spiral as she twists towards her right. Her head is thrown back and sharply inclined to the same side. One leg is extended behind as if in motion, while both arms project forward in a gestural attitude. She wears a long chiton with vestiges of painted decoration in pink and pale blue, the hem flaring with movement. Her hair is gathered in a high chignon and painted with red pigment. The figure stands on a reel-shaped plinth and is mounted on a modern stand.
