A fine copy of this scholarly study of the origins and history of the Swiss peoples, combining historical criticism and linguistic analysis. Bochat seeks to clarify the myths and legends associated with ancient Switzerland. He compares classical and medieval sources to correct historical errors. This study left its mark on the history of Switzerland because it made it possible to move from a mythologised history to a critical one, initiating a scientific approach that was to have a lasting influence on national historiography.
