Abdel-Halim Hemche was a pupil of Cauvy and Antoni at the National School of Fine Arts in Algiers. In 1929, he was appointed Inspector of Moroccan Arts and later Inspector General of Indigenous Arts in Rabat. In 1937, he participated in the Universal Exhibition in Paris, creating the illuminations for the Moorish café in the Algerian pavilion. He regularly participated in the Salon des Artistes Français and the Society of Fine Arts of Overseas France, receiving important awards.
