Lot no. 191
[HENNEZON (Henri). Histoire de l'insigne abbaye de Saintmhiel [sic] en Lorraine au diocese de Verdun. Toul, Alexis Laurent, 1684. In-8, marbled calf, spine decorated, spotted edges (19th century binding). Extremely rare first edition of this history of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Mihiel, founded in Merovingian times on the banks of the Meuse. It is generally attributed to Dom Hennezon (1618-1689), abbot of Saint-Mihiel from 1666 until his death, although it ends with his eulogy.
The edition was printed by Alexis Laurent, who worked in Toul from 1676 to 1728.
Only two copies are known to exist in public collections, in Nancy and at the Arsenal.
A fine copy, formerly washed, with a few shorter leaves and a discreet marginal repair to the first two leaves.
