History: The Atelier de Recherche et de Création (ARC) of the Mobilier National was created in 1964 on the initiative of André Malraux, to "produce furniture and furniture ensembles based on drawings and models by contemporary designers". The Minister of Culture's ambition was to promote a contemporary French style. This workshop became the symbol of French design at the cutting edge of innovation, in terms of both the forms and techniques used.
