"Moret was sensitive to the charm of this somewhat remote spot, located at the far end of the Brest roadstead, at the mouth of the Aulne. We don't know how he came to be there, either sailing down the Aulne or visiting the Crozon peninsula. In this work, the simplification of certain planes or forms, to structure the composition, seems to contradict the scattering of the brushstroke, which is the impressionist translation of light. The painter plays with an unusual opposition between blues and reds. This gives the work a somewhat naïve and unusual character that illustrates the painter's evolution."
