Outstanding Brunswick Baroque plank cabinet in walnut and walnut burl, veneered and inlaid with finely etched pewter and ivory. Straight, high rectangular body on a wide, bulging frame base with corresponding pilaster plinth and cranked horizontal cornice as well as moulded baluster feet. Large bastion panels on the sides. Two large doors in the articulated front with correspondingly elaborately moulded panels, flanked by wide pilasters with Corinthian capitals carved in relief. In the centre, large medallions with figural pewter inlays in the shape of Flora and Minerva, among others, under canopies with pairs of doves. Full-area veneer fields and reserves bordered by band inlays on the pilasters with elaborately intertwined bands and foliate scrolls. The furniture, which is strictly architectural in its construction and thus follows the pattern of the hall cupboard typical of the North German region, shows its mastery not only in the extremely elaborate panelling but above all in the finely engraved inlays characteristic of Brunswick.
