After the war, the autodidact kept his head above water with arts and crafts orders in Salzburg. Breiter was a private student of Max Peiffer Watenphul. The painter Agnes Muthspiel, whom he met through Peiffer Watenphul, became his partner; Breiter became friends with Gottfried von Einem and the set designer Caspar Neher. Active exhibition and travelling activities. In Italy and Greece, landscape paintings in watercolour and oil as well as extensive lithography cycles were created. One of his students was Eliette von Karajan. Breiter was a member of the artists' group "Salzburger Gruppe" and the Salzburger Kunstverein. The art historian Hans Vollmer described his still lifes in 1961 as "in the character of the 17th century Dutch artists" (Willem van Aelst, Jan Asselijn, Gerrrit A.
