Lot no. 80
HEREDIA José Maria de (1842-1905). Les Trophées. Paris, Lemerre, 1893; in-12, bradel ivory half vellum, gilt fillets on the spines and on the border of the spine, gilt head (Paul Vié). Third edition, often described as the original. There were three editions dated 1893: the first, printed in an edition of 10 copies for the jury of the Académie française, the second in-8 with title in red and black, the third in-12 in March 1893, with title in black.
☞ One of 50 Hollande copies (no. 4), this one enriched with a letter from Heredia to Henri de Régnier signed "son ami". Régnier became his son-in-law in 1895, so the book subsequently reverted to his daughter Marie de Régnier (or Gérard d'Houville). On the first blank page, she much later added an ex-dono to Yves Gérard le Dantec, offering him this "souvenir of my dear father to my husband". Finally, a pencil note reads: "Donation from Gérard d'Houville to Yves-Gérard le Dantec, Saturday 7 May 1955, for the fiftieth anniversary of the death of José-Maria de Heredia."
📖 Talvart et Place, VIII, p. 157, 1c. - Title absent from the Le Dantec catalogue of 20 Nov. 1972.
