First edition in the first print run in bookshops, after a very rare off-market edition of 10 copies reserved for the jury of the Académie française. The title is printed in red and black. A third edition with additions appeared the same year, on p. 196, and a fourth in in-12 format. One of 50 copies on japon, numbered and initialled by the publisher. A copy well bound in the period by Louis Pouillet, active in Paris from the 1870s until his death in 1910. Head joint worn, hinges and corners rubbed. Talvart, n°1B - Vicaire, IV, 72.
