Second edition of plates and first edition of text, illustrated with 20 hors-texte plates lithographed in colour by Hering: 1- Frontispiece: Pass Gerlos, Tyrol - 2- Dedication: Madonna above the Lake Orta - 3- Konig See, Bavarian Tyrol - 4- Fugen, Ziller Thal, Tyrol - 5- The River Salza, near Pass Lueg, Tyrol - 6- Convent near Schwatz, Tyrol - 7- Morning on the Traun See, Tyrol - 8- Lake of Hallstadt, Tyrol - 9- From the Cemetery at Thun - 10- Castle of Monspunnen and Jungfrau, near Interlachen - 11- Chillon, Lake of Geneva - 12- Sion, Canton Vallais - 13- Near Viesch, in the Ober Vallais - 14- Pass of the Grimsel - 15- Locarno, Lago Maggiore - 16- Isola de San Guilio, Lago d'Orta - 17- Gandria, Lago di Lugarno - 18- Nesso, Lago di Como - 19- Bellagio, Lago di Como - 20- Lago di Garda. Ex-libris Robert Lionel Foster pasted on the flyleaf. A fine copy in colour, virtually free of foxing. George Hering (1805 1879), younger brother of the bookbinder Charles Hering, was an English landscape painter. According to Abbey, Ackermann published the plates alone in 1845, and Nattali added the text in 1847. Superb album, rare. Perret, 2222 - Abbey 63 - ACL p. 151 - not in CAS, CAI, etc.
