HERMANN CORRODI Frascati 1844 - Rome 1905 View of Tivoli Signed S Corrodi bottom right Watercolour on paper, 40X56 cm The work depicts Tivoli, one of the most visited locations during the Grand Tour. An excellent artist, he studied with Wetzel and Catel in Rome, where he arrived in 1832. At exhibitions in Rome, he won acclaim and recognition. Invited by the Grand Duke, he moved to Florence, where he stayed from 1843 to 1849: he was then in Venice and Zurich. Corrodi can be described as a curious painter, a lover of travel and in constant search of new artistic stimuli. The luminous watercolour presented here highlights his peculiarities as a skilled vedutista, a lover of detail and detail: it is a work rich in form and colour, with subtle chromatic accords masterfully modulated. The compositional structure is calibrated and more than the drawing it is the colour that plays the leading role.
