Hermann Corrodi, der in Italien geborene Maler Schweizer Abstammung, hat sich schon früh auf die Landschaftsmalerei spezialisiert. Ab 1876 besuchte er zeichnend und malend den Nahen Osten mit Syrien und Ägypten, bereist die Länder rund um das Mittelmeer und ging sogar in den Fernen Osten. Daher zählt man ihn zu den Orientalisten des 19. Jahrhunderts, die das Leben und Treiben in diesen Regionen auf ihren Bildern festhalten. From the year 1876 onwards he began to visit, sketch and paint the Near East, Egypt, and Syria as well as the countries of the Mediterranean and the Far East. He is thus counted among the Orientalists of the 19th century who captured the daily life of these regions in their paintings.
