Lot no. 1778
Hermann Seeger. (1857 Halberstadt - 1945 Krössinsee) Girl reading in the Baltic Sea dunes Probably a depiction of one of the artist's daughters, in which he combines realistic and impressionistic stylistic elements. Seeger's main work is particularly charming in its extremely cheerful, summery mood and the motif is characteristic of the artist's oeuvre. Seeger studied at the Berlin Academy under Paul Thurmann and Karl Gussow until 1885, and in 1895 he was appointed assistant director to Anton v. Werner. Seeger became known above all for his beach paintings created after 1900, which depict girls lost in reverie. These show in particular his daughters Hildegard (1899-1983) and Ilse (1904-1994) in the dunes of the Baltic Sea coast, where he emphasised the poetic impression by depicting them in profile. Oil on canvas; signed a.; 70 cm x 50 cm. Frame. Oil on canvas. Signed.
