Grew up in the artists' settlement "Am Rosenhügel". Studied at the University of Applied Arts, master class in fabric printing and wallpaper. Later married children's book author Helmut Leiter, pseudonym "Hans Domenego". Worked together for over 35 years. Collaboration in the "Wiener Gruppe" with Hans Weigel, Elfriede Ott, Käthe Recheis, Mira Lobe, Christine Nöstlinger, Felix Mitterer, Hans Fronius and Lene Mayer-Skumanz. From the 1970s, she worked for the Austrian Youth Book Club. Leiter created collages, drawings, watercolours, etc. Hilde and Helmut Leiter received several awards, including the Austrian Children's and Young People's Book Prize and the Children's Book Prize of the City of Vienna. Hilde Leiter died on July 5, 2015 in Maria Enzersdorf.
