Lot no. 118
HOMER. Ιλιάς, συν τοις σχολίοις. Ilias ad veteris codicis veneti fidem recensita. Venice, Coleti brothers, 1788. Large folio, stiff vellum, ornate smooth spine, daffodil edges (Binding of the period). A very fine and important edition of the Iliad published by the Hellenist J.-B.-G. d'Ansse de Villoison (1750-1805).
Printed in Greek on two columns, it is commended both for the correctness of the text, based on a 10th-century manuscript preserved in the Marcienne in Venice, and for its editor's preface and scolies, drawn from Aristarchus, Didymus, Herodian and Nicanor.
Ex-libris stamp of Franz Seignac-Beck, priest, at the foot of the title.
Endpapers renewed, minor worm damage in lower margin of first few leaves, spine dusted.
