Basel, Robert Winter, 1540, In-4, saddle-skin over wood, triple frame of cold-stamped roulettes, fleurons and fillets, three-ribbed spine, traces of clasps (Germanic binding of the period). First edition of the complete translation of the Iliad into Latin hexameters by Eoban Koch, known as Helius Eobanus Hessus (1488-1540), one of Germany's greatest neo-Latin poets. A fine copy in contemporary stamped saddle leather. From the Johann Friedrich Schneider library, with handwritten bookplate dated 1700 at the bottom of the title. Angular staining, some freckling, worm hole in last few leaves, some stains to binding, clasps missing. USTC: 684594.
