Splendid illustration, perhaps the most emblematic of Symbolism: "The immobility and static archelogical style of the poetry are matched by the pale, cool, lyrical colouring and formalized linear style of the illustrations - landscapes with classical figures rhythmically disposed" (The Turn of the Century, n°70).
