HOMER. Ποιήσεις άμφω ήτε Ιλιάς και η Οδύσσεια. Opus utrumque Iliados et Odysseæ. Basel, Johann Herwagen, 1551. In-folio, stamped saddle-skin over wood, triple framed with cold roulettes (one depicting the Annunciation, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ), initials HEW and date 1554 in the central rectangle, four-ribbed spine, metal clasps (Period Germanic binding dated 1554). Third edition of Homer's works with Didymus' commentary, edited by Jacob Micyllus and Joachim Camerarius and printed in Greek, with text and gloss on two columns, by Johann Herwagen. It contains The Iliad, The Odyssey and The Batrachomyomachy, as well as two opuscules by Porphyry of Tyre, Questions homériques and L'Antre des Nymphes. Beautiful stamped Germanic binding, complete with clasps. Handwritten bookplates dated 1638 and 1704 at the bottom of the title. Old inscriptions on the endpapers and at the beginning of the Iliad. Slight damage and stains to binding. Light dampstaining, some scattered foxing. VD16: H4593 - Adams, H-754.
