CAPUCINE CLOCK brass, formerly silvered, upper pinnacles and carved pediment. Dial signed "Lacroix à Alençon". for Jean Denys, known as Lacroix, master clockmaker of Alençon. Upper bell gong signed "Ioseph Dubois Au Puy" for Joseph Dubois (1734 - 1792) foundryman in Puy-en-Velay. Chains and weights. France, 18th century. The upper pediment was re-engraved in the 19th century with a boar's head coat of arms (unidentified) under a marquis crown. Case height: 34 cm - Width: 15 cm Depth: 14 cm (Good condition, restorations, functional) The clockmaker is probably Jean Denys dit Lacroix, master clockmaker in Alençon, listed in the town archives as having worked on the town's large clock in 1729.
