WALL CLOCK WITH WEIGHTS, THE PROBABLY GERMAN MOVEMENT FROM THE END OF THE 17th CENTURY, THE FRAME FROM THE END OF THE 18th CENTURY Comprising an iron movement fitted with a late 17th century alarm clock mounted on a plate bearing the dial, the plate engraved with a signature and spandrels from a 'No. 316 Korn' floor clock. Leurs Uhrmacher A Eupen', late 18th century The annular dial with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, spandrels in the form of gilded brass loves, the whole surmounted by the signature cartouche, recent brass hands; probably German rectangular movement with square pillars and anchor escapement, the two doors painted, one with Saint Martin, the other with a Virgin and Child, on a green background, single balance with steel stem, striking on a gong; with weights and counterweights. A weighted wall clock, the movement late 17th century, the dial late 18th century Cornelis Leurs was a clockmaker working in Eupen (Néau in French), a German-speaking town 15 kilometres from Aachen, now part of the province of Liège in Wallonia, Belgium. He is known for three floor clocks, including one dated 1782.
