HUGO Victor. Les Misérables. Brussels, A. Lacroix, Verboeckhoven et Cie, 1862; 10 vol. in-12, contemporary bindings in half vermilion basane, spines decorated with gilt fillets, speckled edges. Genuine first edition published in Brussels on 30 or 31 March 1862; two formats were published, in-12 and in-8. Both were printed a few days before the original French edition by Pagnerre in Paris. "In this Belgian edition there are a certain number of sentences which, having appeared dangerous for France, were modified in the French edition" (Vicaire IV, 324).
