Lot no. 289
HUGO (Victor). Night Landscape. Original drawing initialled "V. H." lower right. Brown ink wash on paper (30 x 60 mm); gilded wooden frame, under glass and marie-louise. A fine example of the "minuscules" with which Victor Hugo sought to "give the image the density of a dream" (Gérard Audinet), in full accord with his conception of nature as the visible part of the invisible, suspended between two infinities, the infinitely large and the infinitely small.
