IATMUL, Middle Sepik, Papua New Guinea. Wood, natural pigments, cypraea shell. Very old, high-quality hook carved with a human face at the top. Attached to the beams of men's houses, this type of hook was used to hang food baskets or ancestral skulls. Height: 70 cm. Provenance: Collection of a couple of collectors, Blois. Acquired on 4 October 2001 from Michel Dermigny, 7 rue Guénégaud, Paris 6 (Certificate of authenticity attached).
