IBAN DAYAK, Sarawak, Borneo, Indonesia. A charm/amulet depicting a small primitive-looking figure used as medicine and protection against evil spirits. The wooden figure is shown standing in an attitude of contemplation. Height: 11.5 cm. Width: 2.5 cm. Note: Dayak healers produced small protective figures (hampatong). These "charms" were used to ward off evil spirits. Provenance: Collected in situ in 1970 by Jacques Cortecero on the River Baram.
