IBAN DAYAK, Sarawak, North Kalimantan, Indonesia. Hardwood, black patina. Rare set of three old chief's baby carrier uprights. The three uprights are carved with representations of divinities intended to protect infants from malevolent spirits who would seek to mislead their souls, but also to indicate social status.
