Lot no. 506
TWO-PART ICON 'MOTHER OF GOD KORSUNSKAYA AND SAINT NICHOLAS' AND 'MOTHER OF GOD BOGOLYUBSKAYA' WITH SILVER OKLAD Russia, 19th century Oklad: silver, chasing, engraving, gilding Marks: master stamp in Cyrillic 'ML' for Lipman M. (Vilno, 1862-1903) ?; master assayer stamp in Cyrillic 'A.S' above the date '1862', silver mark '84' and coat of arms of the city of Moscow; engraved inscriptions in Cyrillic: 'Kazanskaya Presviataya Bogoroditsa' and 'Sv. Nikolay Mirlikiysky Tchudotvorets'. wood, levkas, tempera 31 x 26.5 cm Condition: good condition, partially restored The inscription 'Kazanskaya Mother of God' on the oklad instead of 'Korsunskaya' is a mistake, and the Bogolyubskaya Mother of God is not mentioned: this probably happened when the oklad was made for the existing icon; the edges of the board were added, and the icon was restored. The silver oklad, decorated with a variety of floral ornaments typical of 'traditional' Russian decoration, has significant artistic value.
