Icon of Saint Nicholas of Mojaïsk. He is depicted with a sword in his right hand and a church, symbolising Moscow, in his left, recalling the miraculous rescue of the city during Tamerlane's invasion in 1395, when the saint appeared to the Prince of Moscow. He is surrounded by seraphim and surmounted by Christ Jesus and the Mother of God. Tempera on wood. In an oklad of fine gilded metal leaf cut in the style of the 16th century. Red velvet back.
