ICON 'THE MOTHER OF GOD IVERSKAYA'WITH A SILVER OKLAD AND IN A BOX (KIOT) BY ABRAMTSEVO Moscow, late 19th century oklad: silver, chasing, engraving, gilding, enamel; hallmarks: master hallmark in Cyrillic 'G.S' for Grigoriy Sbitnev (1870-1914); master assayer hallmark 'A.A' above the date '1896', silver hallmark '84' and 'woman's head in kokochnik turned to the left', coat of arms of the city of Moscow kiot: carved oak wood, Abramtsevo workshop wood, oil 26.7 x 22.7 cm (icon), 56 x 48 cm (kiot) Condition: good overall condition, represents significant collector's value The Iverskaya Mother of God is an icon of the Virgin Mary which, according to the sacred tradition of the Eastern Orthodox Church, was painted by Luke the Evangelist, then discovered by monks and preserved in the Georgian monastery of Iviron on Mount Athos in Greece. Many miracles have been attributed to the intercession of the Mother of God Iverskaya.
