Lot no. 233
Description In-12° (approx. 17 x 11 cm). Coeval half-leather binding with marbled paper plates "a chiocciola" in shades of red and ochre. Frontispiece within a decorative typographic frame, enriched with a fine woodcut vignette depicting horses in a rural landscape. Notes on the work: Rare late 18th-century Venetian edition of this celebrated treatise on hippology and veterinary medicine, based on the Turin edition of 1780. The text is an exhaustive compendium of the equestrian science of the time, dealing not only with breeding and the treatment of diseases, but also practical aspects such as shoeing and protection from the swindles of merchants ("furberie de' Sensali"). The work declares the presence of 'Copper Figures' accompanying the text. Condition Genuine specimen. Binding with signs of age and small tears to the covers, but solid. Interior well-preserved on heavy paper of the period; usual slight staining and browning that does not detract from the beauty of the decorative apparatus.
