BIAK ISLAND, Cenderwasih Bay, North West Indonesia. Very rare hardwood and carved bamboo arrowhead. The Korwar was the receptacle for the spirit of the deceased. It was consulted by the deceased's family for divinatory purposes or to implore their protection. The intermediary of a shaman (mon) was essential, as only he could transmit the words considered to have come from the deceased. Height: 120 cm.
