JAVA ISLAND, Indonesia. Wooden "Ukiran or hulu kriss" handle in the form of a stylised figure with a Garuda head and a bronze ferrule. Length: 9 cm. Note: The kriss (keris in Indonesian and Curiga in Javanese) is a dagger that symbolises the physical and social double of its owner. Provenance: Collected in situ in 1976 by Jacques Cortecero.
