ILLYRIAN BRONZE HELMET.
Ca. 500 BC A bronze helmet of Illyrian type with a tall domed skull with two pronounced longitudinal ribs running from the brow to the nape. The front with a broad rectangular opening for the face and integral elongated cheek guards descending in a gentle curve. A lower edge forms a slightly flaring neck guard at the back. The whole perimeter is set with a line of domed rivets for the attachment of an inner lining. A small peg projects above the forehead, and a ring at the rear. Size: 230mm x 265mm; Weight: 1.1kg. Provenance: Private London collection, formerly acquired on the American art market, previously acquired from an art gallery in Jerusalem in the 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
