Large headband embroidered with dragons, China, second half of the 19th century, red woollen fabric embroidered in gold thread on the hinge and in polychrome silk with three 5-clawed dragons chasing a fire pearl through the clouds. Lining and top band in indigotated cotton canvas, (rare small holes on the bottom), 78 x 385 cm.
According to family tradition, this headband came from the Great Temple of Peking or the Imperial Palace. It was brought back by Ulysse Pilat, Consul of France and member of the family that ran the eponymous factory. His name is inscribed on a bolduc.
