LARGE MARQUEE in marble, carved on all sides and decorated with scrolling foliage. One side is carved with a portrait of a man rising from scrolls, depicted in a full bust, his face symmetrical, his long hair parted in the middle and falling to his shoulders. The abacus is carved with pseudepigraphic inscriptions in two registers: "CRIS / ACVBIS / ROBERTVS / MASIS / FOSES" (?) with a frieze of dotted lines. Italy, 12th century Romanesque style. Height: 50 cm - Width: 46 cm - Depth: 46 cm (Damage, erosion, visible missing parts) Provenance former Edouard Larcade collection (1871-1945) sale of the former Lacarde collection, 7 October 1979, lot no. 35 (reproduced), Me Blache, auctioneer. Designated as Romanesque. Paris private collection. Note: Edouard Larcade (1871-1945) was a well-known dealer collector between the wars. Several works from his collection entered the collections of the Musée du Louvre, where a room in the objets d'art department now bears his name.
